Kaplan Clean Tech's Solar Photovoltaic Entry Level PV Design and Installation Training thoroughly covers the topics required to understand solar energy and begin gaining the skills to become a solar installation professional.

  • Recognize important PV terms
  • Understand the history of PV
  • Identify consumers of PV technology
  • Recognize advantages and disadvantages of PV systems

  • Understanding daily and annual solar variations
  • Understand the importance of PV location
  • Learn about techniques for shading analysis
  • Be able to calculate electricity production from a PV system
  • Learn about additional resources and solar energy employment opportunities
  • 18 hours of self-paced online solar energy training

Here are the steps to becoming eligible for, and successfully passing, the NABCEP Entry Level exam:

Step 1: Training

  • While there is no training requirement to sit for the Entry Level Exam, Kaplan Clean Tech strongly recommends that candidates do attend some kind of formal training to prepare for the exam

Step 2: Candidate Eligibility Form

  • Students will be asked to complete a Candidate Eligibility Form
  • This form must be filled out completely by the candidate and signed by the instructor
  • The contact information entered on this form will be used for communicated from NABCEP about the exam
  • An email address must be provided; email is used by NABCEP to send Authorization to Test notifications for computer based exams and other exam related
  • A mailing address must also be provided; score reports and passing score achievement paperwork are delivered via the postal service 

Step 3: Exam Delivery Options

  • The exam is available in paper & pencil and computer based format

Step 4: Exam Time-Limit, Length, and Format

  • Candidates are allowed a maximum of 2 hours to complete 60 multiple choice questions
  • Candidates should expect to be in the room for a period up to 3 hours

Step 5: Scoring and Passing Achievement

  • All exams candidates should expect a score report within 4-6 weeks of taking the exam
  • Score reports will be mailed via postal service to the address provided on the Candidate Eligibility Form along with the Passing Score Achievement documents
  • A candidate who achieves a passing score will recieve a document signed by NABCEP's Executive Director along with a suitable-for-framing document listing the candidate's name along with a statement indicating that the individuals has demonstrated basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of the application, design, installation and operation of the applicable energy system for the exam taken 
  • Candidate may take the exam up to four times at a regularly scheduled exam administration without repeating the course 

Step 6: Use of a Passing Score Achievement

  • A passing score on the NABCEP Entry Level exam does not confer the title of a NABCEP Certified Installer or any other title or credential from NABCEP
  • A successful candidate may state that he or she has passed an Entry Level exam issued by NABCEP
